Prescription Update

I got the prescription. No way am I going to let the insurance company tell me what I can and can’t take.

I also wrote a page and a half letter to my company’s VP of HR. And she’s going to keep getting letters until I hear from someone. And my company is not small by any means. I am not expecting them to change their rules for me, I just want someone to be able to explain to me why my prescription isn’t covered when others are. I want to know what the criteria are for drugs to be covered. That way, I can try to steer clear of more prescriptions that my plan doesn’t cover.

Aaargh!

Fucking Insurance Companies

Went to the pharmacy today to pick up a prescription. Found out they don’t cover it and the pharmacy wants $110 dollars. I ask them to hold it for me, in hopes that it’s some kind of misunderstanding with the insurance company, and make my way towards home to give them a call. After speaking with two people at the insurance company, I found out that they couldn’t tell me why my drug is not covered. The only info they have is that it’s not covered “because my plan doesn’t cover it”. Elaine and Damon at United Health Care were very unhelpful. But Damon does tell me to call my benefits office to find out why it’s not covered.

I call the benefits department and find out that they have just decided not to cover certain drugs. In addition to the one I need, they don’t cover pre-natal vitamins or Nexium. Why do I pay good money if I can’t use the services promised by the company?
